Dr. Ronald Barr is former head of Dermatopathology at University of California at Irvine Medical Center. He is also past president of the American Board of Dermatology and past president of the America Society of Dermatopathology.
Dr. Barr is Board Certified in anatomical pathology, dermatopathology, and dermatology. He will be heading Barr Dermatopathology Consultants, a division of Laguna Pathology Medical Group.
Dr. Barr is a nationally recognized expert in dermatopathology, a subspecialty of pathology that deals with the microscopic interpretation of skin biopsies. He is sought out by dermatologists, those physicians who treat skin diseases, as an expert in the interpretation of skin biopsies of pigmented skin lesions such as nevi (moles) and melanoma. He has authored many academic articles on a variety of skin diseases and has lectured extensively about the microscopic interpretation of skin tumors, atypical nevi and melanomas. While at UCI, Dr. Barr trained a generation of dermatologists, many of whom practice in Orange County. For years, Dr. Barr faithfully served dermatologists and patients in the communities of Orange County neighboring counties as their academic expert in the microscopy interpretation of challenging skin biopsies. Dr. Barr and his associates have elevated the level of the dermatopathology program at Mission Hospital-Laguna Beach to that of a Center of Excellence, and reaffirm Mission Hospital- Laguna Beach’s commitment to bringing the very best in cancer care to the communities that it serves.
